Career Day Reflection
What is Career Day at HTHNC? What is its purpose?
Career Day at HTHNC is an experience for students to learn first hand the realities of the workplace. Doing career day allows students to explore a field they might be interested in doing in the future or get to experience something totally out of their comfort zone.
When break was over Mr. Schwartz had meetings to attend, but I could not go with him because it was private information. So I spent my first period back from break with Mr. Olivas an eighth grade math and science teacher. He was teaching his students about compound interest, and going over last night's homework. After my lovely time there with Mr. Olivas, my mentor came to get me. He did another lips training with a student for about 30 minutes, and as a reward the kid got to play a game on Mr. Schwartz's computer. After that Mr. Schwartz had a teacher presentation of learning to attend to at the elementary school, and I could not attend that either because of private information. So I went to Mr. Clark a seventh grade humanities teacher and Mrs. Voss a seventh grade math and Science teacher. There was not really much going on since lunch was in 5 minutes so everyone was pretty much packing up. After I came back from lunch and was back to Mr. Clark and Mrs. Voss class, they explained to me the current project they were doing. It was about fear and trying to overcome fear, every week they tried to overcome a different fear. They went rock climbing, brought spiders and reptiles, and are planning on going to an escape room. For the next two hours I watched them work on their dialectical journals. After that I went back to my original mentor for elective. He helped students who didn't understand what they are learing in class or don't know what they are doing. The day ended with us putting up the chair and him dismissing the class.
