After he came home to the last seccion he was tired, he was tried of William using him. He did not want William to have to power of changing reality because he had him at his mercy. George wanted to not have dreams or to get better about not having effective dreams, but William kept of making him change reality. Once he finally went in for another session he noticed all anyone talked about was the war in the middle east, and how bad it is going. When George finally got to William office they argued about how no one has the right to change reality and mess with the way of things. William on the other hand did not admit to knowing about this reality change but instead injected him and put him to bed. He made him dream about peace, but George dreamed about ending the war but starting a galactic war with aliens. That made them get into a bigger argument, and George walking out.
A similarite I see between our world and the book is war, in the book they are fighting aliens/middle east, and we have troops out fighting in the middle east as well. One of the central themes in the book Lathe of Heaven is power, that is shown with William he thinks he rule the world with all of the power he has but he just puts the world in danger. Then George on the other hand does not want to have power, that just means that it is not enough to have power but knowing how to use it. The book was really good, it had an amazing message. Yes I would highly recommend this book. This book is really cool because it is so much like our world, it's like the future of our world. Only hopefully in the future no one will be able to change reality. This book remind me on how fast our world is changing for better or for worse. I will comment on Leslie's blog and Angeli's blog.

George went to go see lawyer, because he thinks William is invading his privacy. The lawyer however does not think he has a strong chance of winning because no one would take his word over a doctor's. After talking with her George gives up hope and apologizes for taking her time and starts heading out. However the lawyer notices how honest he seems and tries to help him. George tells the lawyer about he is able to alter reality with his dreams, she does not believe him (at all), but they decided she is going to go in to supervise one of his session but as a inspector. When she goes and sees him being hypnotized she saw that George "solved" overpopulation by dreaming of a plague and killing millions of people. She witnesses for her own eyes yet William tries to cover it up and make it seem like nothing ever happened, even though himself also saw that.
This book kind of reminds of the book "Divergent" this is because in Divergent they evaluate fears and they try to overcome them. In this book William makes George dream about his fear and he ends up having a nightmare about it. While in Divergent Four needs to get over his fears. In the book climate change and overpopulation are a big problem and one of the few that are commonly brought up again and again. If we were to compare that to our United States both of those would still be a very big problem. That both worlds have in common. A difference I noticed is that in our United States cars are allowed in the city but in the book George mentions being tired of having to use public transportation because he can't bring a car through downtown. April 6, 2018 "Texas begins operation to send National Guard troops to the border" By Steve Almasy, Barbara Starr and Ryan Browne This article is about how Texas is getting ready to deploy National Guard troops and vehicles to the border, so the border can be "secured" while Trump's wall is under construction. The National Guard troops will be there for air support, help with reconnaissance and construction of border infrastructure and give logistics support. The National troops will not be allowed to enforce immigration laws. Overall the presence of the National Guard has people feeling a bit uneasy or scared, while others say they feel safer because of the soon decrease of illegal activity on the southern border. Early this April Tracy Norris announced that 250 National Guard troops will be deployed to Texas to defend the state's 1,254-mile long border with Mexico. Tracy Norris claims that protecting our borders is a priority and that President Donald Trump is in full support of that happing. Even though Texas already has 100 troops on the border from an operation from 2014. Arizona has also announced they are sending 150 troops to border next week. As previously said those troops will be there to lend air support, help with reconnaissance and construction of border infrastructure and give logistics support. Overall all the National Guards are there to act as support to Border Patrol agents who are performing law enforcement duties. It was the Department of Homeland Security that pushed getting the troops, and this is because they think that the troops will be able to help with identified security vulnerabilities in the borders/border patrol agents that could be addressed by the National Guard. Overall the National Guards are there to increase border security and help out the border patrol agents. This event is happing in Texas and Arizona specifically, but overall this problem will probably end up affecting our entire relationship with the Mexican border. This event started early this months when tweets were made by state officials to send National troops to the border, and taking actions into sending those troops. This is not the first time National guards get sent to the border. As said in the article Texas already had 100 troops there from a mission in 2014. There was already about 6,000 troops deployed already in the Mexican border. That number will probably just be increasing. Border security has always been a giant problem in America but recently that has been reflected more in social media and television. Overall this event happened because how unprotected the border is towards illegal activity on the southern border. I think our borders should be protected from the illegal activity like drug trafficking or human trafficking. I am unsure in sending the National Guard out there the best way to do that. This is because their presence might interfere with the border patrol agents job and might frighten immigrants who are trying to illegally pass, or worse they can harm them. My biggest fear with that is for innocent people being hurt because of the large number of troops being sent which can lead to miscommunication on rules and boundaries. March 5, 2018 "DACA's March 5 'deadline' marks only inaction" By Tal Kopan This article is overall about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. It talks about how now six months after Donald Trump moved to end the program there is still no resolution from Congress. March 5th was going to be the deadline for Congress to come up with a legislative version of the policy. In September of 2017, Donald Trump moved to end DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program), which is a program that protected undocumented immigrants from deportation. Donald Trump gave Congress a six months delay to Congress so they could come up with a legislative version of the policy. Now March 5 Congress has not been able to pass a legislative version of the policy. Also, the Department of Homeland Security was going to renew any two-year DACA permits until March 5, So starting March 5 DACA permits started expiring for good. Now young undocumented immigrants are unprotected. March 23 is when the next government funding deadline, but sources say that it will be almost impossible for Congress to come up with a compromise unless one side is willing to change their votes. This is because most votes in favor for DACA have been 150 - 170 & about 218 votes would be required for DACA to pass again. This leaves dreamers out of the loop of what might happen to there future, dreamers have been protesting to advocate for there cause. This event happened in the United States of America. This event started in September of 2017 but is starting to pick up now. This happened because of Donald Trump moving to cancel the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Donald Trump moved to cancel DACA because he has never agreed with immigration laws/ accepting immigrants. He never approved of previous President Obama passing this policy. This is because he thinks illegal immigrants are lawbreakers who hurt native-born Americans by usurping their jobs and pushing down wage. I think that it is not fair for DACA to be put to an end, this is because DACA covers young immigrants who came to this country at a very young age and America is all they know. Most dreamers are in rolled into colleges and are living successful lives and helping our economy. DACA should not be put to an end because there are many families that will be separated. I will comment on Angeli's Blog Hyperlink and Stacy's blog Hyperlink. During the fourth part of the book, it continued to talk about what logotherapy is and different aspects of logotherapy. Two of my favorite he talked about (because if I did all of them this summary would be too long) were The Meaning of Love and The Meaning of Suffering. The Meaning of Love was important to add because he said when someone is in love with someone that person is able to see all of the unlimited potentials that person holds. Therefore pushing that person to reach their unlimited potential and to accomplish their goals, because that person lets their lover become aware of what he can be and of what he should become. The Meaning of Suffering was important because I really good point he brought up was that when you are put into a situation that is not able to be changed you can either pity yourself and let yourself crumble or you can transform that situation into a triumph/challenge to change yourself.
If I had to write a mini sequel to this book I would choose to expand on the first part of this book. Specifically, phase three (which is the period following his release) because I feel that for the other two phases he went really in depth and gave lots of personal connections, but for the third phase, he only talked about what he observed or what other prisoners had gone through. If I had the knowledge to write more I would write more about how he felt when he got released from camp. I want to know if he had any family waiting for him? Or if he was mad at the world for taking his liberty and ever so abruptly giving it back? I want to know more about how he felt when all of the mental stress from being a prisoner in a camp was taken off his shoulders ever so rapidly? I have so many questions on the final phase, that is why I would choose to expand on phase three. I would recommend my book to a friend because I felt like this book was not your typical holocaust book we read in class. In this book there was no hero saving people, there was no heroic story going on. This book really helped me understand how an average day in camp life was like and what happened to someone's mental state when they were a prisoner. I will comment on Leslie's blog and Angeli's blog. I started reading part two of the book (there are two parts) the second part of the book is Viktor E. Frankl explaining Logotherapy in a nutshell. Logotherapy focuses on the future, it is about the meanings to be fulfilled by the patient in the future. It basically helps the patient look for a meaning in life or a goal to look forward too. Logos is a Greek word that means “meaning”, that is why logotherapy focuses on the meaning of human existence as well as on man’s search for such meaning.
For the “putting yourself in the book” I am going to focus on the last phase of camp life which is following his release and liberation. This is because this is the phase which I found to be the most interesting. When I was thinking of how would I react if I was liberated from a concentration camp, my initial thought was that I would go back home and be grateful for every day and I would be grateful for everything. After thinking about it a bit more I feel like I would be the person who thinks they can do bad because bad has been done to me. Personally, I feel like I would be mad at life for putting through all of that (Being in a camp) and not getting any reward. Because If you really think about it when most of those prisoners who were liberated and sent home they had no family to find because most of them were dead or lost. I would honestly be mad, even if in my ideal world I went back home grateful to be alive I know that would not be the case. I will comment on Angeli and Leslie blogs. So far of the book went over the last two phases of how was everyday life in a concentration camp reflected in the mind of the average prisoner, the last two phases of were the prisoners being well entrenched in camp life and the period following his release and liberation. One of the main symptoms for phase two talked about what the lack of feeling shown/felt by the prisoners. Most of the prisoners have given up hope or didn’t care about what has happened to them. They also stopped caring about watching people die and stopped caring about other people. Then for the last phase one of the main symptoms was the feeling of “depersonalization” this is because after being liberated from camp life they were released from all of the metal stress they had. They could not really grasp onto the fact that they were free men. This is because for so long being free was just a dream something they longed for everyday and now that they had it, it felt unreal like a dream.
Unlike most books my book didn’t really follow charters they followed actions and events, so they weren't really any consistent charters and he did not use people’s names. (The only consistent charter was Dr. Frankl, who also shared his personal stories to prove his points) I chose three events that included 4 charters that helped shape the book with their experiences. The first charter was a young women who knew she was going to die soon and basically reflected on her life thus far. She talked about how in her previous life she was spoiled and did not really take her spiritual life seriously. Now she was grateful that fate has hit her so hard, so she could realize what she had. She also mentioned how her only friend in the camp was a chestnut tree that talked back to her, and the tree said “I am here- I am here- I am life, eternal life.” The second event was two cases that were almost suicide cases, both men had talked about committing suicide. There argument was the typical argument prisoners used they had nothing more to expect from life. The other prisoners had to make both of the prisoners realize that life was still expecting something from them. It turned out that one of the prisoners had a child who he adored and longed to be with, and for the other prisoner it was a series of books which still needed to be finished. They needed to understand that another person could not ever take the place of father in his child affections, and that his books could not be written by somebody else. The last event that takes place after the liberation of the camp, one of Dr. Frankl’s friends used his freedom licentiously and ruthlessly. The man basically went from being the oppressed to the oppressor. The incident happened like this Dr.Frankl and his friend were walking in the field when they stumbled upon a field of green crops. Dr. Frankl obviously tried avoiding the crops so he would not damage them but his friend pulled on his arm and dragged him through the field of crops. Dr. Frankl became annoyed and said why did we walk all over the poor baby crops. His friend became mad and said isn't is fair for us to do this after so much has been taken away from us. Dr.Frankl’s friend justified his behavior by there own terrible experiences. The men who thought similarly to this man had to be guided back on the right direction and realize that even though wrong has been done to them no one has the right to do wrong. "Mexico reports highest murder rate on record" By Patrick Gillespie, CNN Updated 4:38 PM ET, Mon January 22, 2018 The article is about how the murder rates have increased. This is because of the increased levels of drug-related violence. That is arguably caused by America's high demand for drugs. The article started off by talking about how the high levels of drug-related violence led to Mexico's year with the most murders (2017). In 2017 there was a total of 25,339 homicides in Mexico, that means that from 2016 to 2017 there was an increase of 23%. The murders in Mexico were going down as of 2014 reaching an all-time low of 15,520 total murders, but because of the increase in drug-related crime, the all-time low is now increasing. Many places in western Mexico have become a dangerous war zone, that includes Guerrero, Jalisco, Sinaloa, and Baja California Sur. It has also become dangerous for journalists, in 2017 over 40 journalists were killed in Mexico. One of Mexico's most discussed issues for this election season (which starts in March) is Security and crime. The current President and his political party have been painfully bashed for there inability to control the situation. President Enrique Peña Nieto cannot go up for reelection because of the term limits. Overall a called for help has been placed on the United States to obtain more help. This Event took place in Mexico. This event has been progressively getting worse through the years but his its climax last year. One of the main reasons this event took place is because of the high demand for drugs not only in the United States but across the world. Another factor that the Article mentioned is the detention of one of the most notorious drug lords Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. Ever since his detention on January 8, 2016, murder rates in Sinaloa have gone up 39% altogether. This factor probably influenced the drug system across Mexico. I think Mexico needs more reinforced drug laws and more political help for this situation. The political parties this year for the election their main priority should be to reduce the country's current murder rate. Overall I feel like Mexico's crime rate/ drug related violence should decrease with the new president that gets elected this year. I will comment on Angeline SR. and Angeli S. blog posts. |
