Decades Project Reflection
For this project I learned about Chicago during the 1930s. I chose this time period because there was a lot of movemnts that forever shaped our country and the way decisions are made. Something interesting I learned about my dacade during this project was that during the 1930 the Democratic party was the reason for the public’s new interest in politics and for mass reform movements. Also another thing I learned was that by 1932 40%-50% of african americans workers were unemployed. Other things I learned were that during this time many frustrated workers took matter into there owns hands and conducted strikes and protest. This was what brought people together, it united people across race, ethnicity, and across workforce.
Two connections that I see between Chicago and the 1930 and the world today is that still today discrimination/prejudice between african americans still exist. Also working In Chicago especially in Chicago Illinois is very competitive and hard because there is a lot of people who want jobs, and again social prejudice plays a strong role in who gets those jobs.
The music compilation video is probably my favorite artifact my group produced. This is because the video and really engaging and captivating. They also got to learn a lot of what was going on during the 1930 due to that video. Also overall the video was just funny and cheerful.
I learned more about the economical side of Chicago during the 1930. Well I did my fair share of research for each one so I am knowledgeable in each one but economics side is the one I did the most research in.
Something I would change about this project is that, I would not want so many other things going on while we are trying to do this project. For example we had to worry about MUN and the college road trip while we were working on this project. Those events did not only take up class time but they took away from us being able to work in them at home. I feel like if we would have gotten more time we could have created better work.
Two thirds of my group read To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The book was told through the eyes of a young girl Jean Louise Finch. Through the book Scout has to learn how to emphasize with people and not be quick to judge. Throughout the entire book we learn about the different neighbors of Maycomb and learn their back story. Throughout the book Scout’s perspective on people changes, by the end of the book what Atticus says finally comes into place you will never really know someone until you take a walk in there shoes.
