The story has mentioned three locations so far Santa Teresa del Mar, Havana, and New York. Celia and her grandson Ivanito live in Santa Teresa del Mar. Felicia daughter of Celia and mother of Ivanito lives in Havana. My group and I know this because In the first chapter there is a section where they are explaining how Felica "has made a seventeen-mile journey form Havana to Santa Teresa del Mar..." (9) New York was mentioned a few times throughout the first chapter. When I discussed with my group we all agreed that Celia's husband had died there. Also that they have more family there.
So far I can tell that Celia is not to fond of New York City, but that New York City will be a reoccurring location. Maybe it will be one that Celia goes to eventually. Santa Teresa del Mar is where all the action is taking place right now, in the book it mentioned some sort of revolution or conflict. So probably over the next couple of chapters the conflict will continue to unfold. Overall I think the story will mainly take place in Santa Teresa del Mar, because that is where the main character lives. I think the setting will be important to the story because the main conflict is happening in Cuba. In this case there is some sort of conflict/revolution thing going on with Cuba and someone/with in it self. It is not clear if any other place is involved. Maybe The United States will be important because if I understood correctly Celia's husband was in the military. This story could have maybe taken place in a bystander place, somewhere that just watches the conflict going in Cuba.

In the small town of Tombstone lived a young man named Jack. Jack was the proud owner of the local saloon. There were many saloons in Tombstone but not a single one compared to Jack's Saloon. Many town folks would spend every afternoon there drinking to their heart content. But there was a certain fellow named Robert who was jealous of Jack and his success. The only reason people would go to Jack's saloon was that Jack offered the coldest beer in town. Robert said to one of the town's men,
"I bet if my beer was as cold as his, folks would come to my saloon" The town men replied, "Keep dreaming Robert there is no way Jack would ever tell you how he keeps his beer cold. He ain't stupid." Robert muttered back, "Who said I'm going to ask, I'll see you later I've got to go." Robert walked inside of his saloon. Robert came up with what he thought to be the most amazing plan, he was going to disguise himself and sneak into Jack's saloon and see inside one of his beer barrels. Robert was ecstatic about his plan he worked diligently for about a week on his disguise. When it was complete he started putting his plan into action. One evening he strolled into Jack's Saloon and no one seemed to notice him since the place was packed with people. He managed to slip behind the bar where the beer barrels were, he carefully opened one of them and peeked inside. Robert saw nothing, there was nothing but beer in the barrel. As he was putting the lid back on one of his hands slipped and he touched the bottom of the barrel and he noticed it was freezing. He smiled, he had figured it out, Jack kept the barrel cold by putting ice packs around the barrel. When Robert turned around to walk away, he was face to face Jack. As soon as he made eye contact with Jack, the only thing heard was the sound of a gun. Maximus is a horse, but not any horse he is the king horse. Out of all of the horses in the barn, he is the all mighty. Maximus thinks he is an amazing ruler, he thinks he is judicious, understanding, and a great listener. The other horses feel like Maximus exploits them for labor, but they are all too scared to say or do anything. They are all scared of is tawny eyes, when every they look him in the eyes they get a chill down their spine. One day the horses saw farmer James building a house like structure near their pen, the horses thought nothing of this, but Maximus said,
" That building is my property and you all will help me get it.", The horses were terrified Maximus has never made them mess with the farmer's things. Maximus was determined to obtain the house looking structure, he made some of the naive horses help him paint the barn green and move into the structure. But there was this one horse who was done being Maximus subordinate servant, he was determined to take over the structure so all the horses could live in it. So he gathered a group of people who seldom listened to Maximus to help him repaint the structure red the color Maximus hates the most. Overnight the horses got to work and painted the entire structure red when morning came and the other horses saw what he did they applaud him. Then when Maximus saw he was furious he said, "I demand you paint it back to green or else" But the red structure gave them the courage to stand up to Maximus. All the horses shunned Maximus, and never spoke to him again. Little did they know they were all going to be moved into the barn eventually it was only a matter of time. Hereafter, all barns are painted red in honor of the horse revolution. Topic: Why did the Pirates bother making prisoners or enemies "walk the plank" instead of just chucking them overboard?
Once upon a time there was a group of pirates who were circumnavigating the world to find treasures. On the ship there was a captain who was known as Whitebeard. Whitebeard was known to be a ruthless man who plundered other ships resources, but something no one could deny was that he had good seamanship skills. He thought himself to be a very judicious fellow, he thought he always knew what was best for his people. That was until one day his cartographer Larry betrayed him. Larry had been giving other captains the maps leading to the treasures. Larry said, "they were offering me a bigger piece of the treasure, I could not say no." Captain Whitebeard was beyond angry he could not even explain what he was feeling at the moment. That says a lot because Captain Whitebeard seldomly ever got mad, and everyone knew when he got mad you had to run. That is when it happened. Captain Whitebeard ripped a plank of wood off one of the benches in the ship. He attached it right at the side of the ship and look at Larry straight in the eyes and said "jump". Everyone looked at Captain Whitebeard like he was crazy but no one dared to say anything. Larry saw he had no other choice so he approached the plank slowey and casualty. Then when he got to the edge of the plank about to fall to his doom he looked at Captain Whitebeard hoping he would change his mind, but captain showed no signs of mercey. Larry jumped off and everyone stayed frozen on the ground. Everyone was afraid, Captain then said "everyone go back to your duties". Hereafter the plank was used to punish a traitor or an enemie. Throughout the discussion they talked about how the natives were treated by the colonist and the promoters. They also talked about the colonist and their terrible decisions that ended up impacting them. Like being lazy and not wanting to farm, the environment they lived in, and the harsh punishments they gave to their own people (like putting rods through their mouth so they wouldn't eat any more). They also talked about the promoters ambitions intentions of gaining more money and land, while doing very little work. Those were just of the things discussed.
The class performed really well the people in the middle having the discussion were really into, they made it humorous to watch while still spitting out some facts. Also personally taking notes was hard because they were talking very fast and speaking/yelling over each other. So next time they should step in and step out of the discussion, so not so many people are speaking at the same time. I thought the fishbowl discussion was very funny but it also helped me understand some of the content of the book I did not understand before. I feel that the group the performed the best was the natives. This is because the Natives we using a lot of textual evidence and hard pretty good stories about their people. A very interesting point that was made was that not many of the promotres went to America, so they had no idea of what was going on. That is something I kind of forgot, but that was important to mention during the discussion. There was nothing confusing about the discussion. I do not have any further questions about that time period. The princess loved observing many things. She loved observing her subordinate people work for her. It gave her great pleasure to see her sailors leave to circumnavigate all around the world and bring her back many extravagant objects. Deep down she also loved seeing the kingdom's babies germinate into lovely little kids, even though she would never admit to it. The kingdom saw her as weird and crazy, her tawny eyes made people uncomfortable and people do not trust her. She would describe herself as an amazing future leader, she believed herself to be judicious, caring, and smart. She knew she was being fanciful the kingdom people would never accept her as future queen. Her father tried reassuring her everything would work out in the end. She knew that her father was living in a fallacy, she knew he was totally oblivious to what the kingdom thought of her. Her father's epoch was almost done, he was becoming old and sick, she would have to wed soon. Sometimes she wishes she had seamanship skills so she could sail away and never come back. The princess could only dream of acceptance and hope she could be loved and trusted as her father. Hereafter nothing would matter but earn the trust and love of her kingdom.
Some patterns and connections I noticed during the scavenger hunt at Balboa park was that they all related back to early American history. We learned about early American immigrants and learned about early American life. That relates back to the stations we did for the project launch. The artifacts that were the most interesting were the fountain that had the yellow vase next to it. I want to know the story behind it. Another one was the Chicano Park Murals, those always really fascinated me. Especially because most are about Latino culture so it seems that they are just for me. It confirmed the point history is something that needs to be written through multiple perspectives. At the museum, they had different stories of the same event in history, But the feeling you get is based on which perspective you read. Something I noticed about the curation at the museum was that each room was a different subtopic that all went back to the main topic. The topics presented were early American life, early American history, paintings, and women in history just to name a few. The story of Peter and the wolf was presented in a very artistic way, I liked that the set was being made as the story progressed.
My first impression of the 11th grade was that it was going to be a very challenging year. I feel this year there will be lots of growing and changing, whether that be personal or academic. There is going to be lots of work so time management will be extremely important.
I am really looking forward to accomplishing my honors project because that will make me feel really accomplished. I am also really looking forward to learning about history. Everything we have learned about thus far has been very interesting to learn about. Also, internship is something I am really excited about. I am nervous about the workload. Even though I have good time management skills, I am still nervous about not being able to finish all the work. I think this year I have actually really enjoyed learning about history and other topics. I really enjoyed learning about the rhetoric. Also, the first reading we did was super interesting, It really got me thinking about American's and our beliefs. Also with our reading on Christopher Columbus really helped me realize how white people wrote our history. Even though the Columbus reading was long and repetitive it was really interesting. I learn best in small groups and examples really help me. My strengths in humanities consist of being able to be empathetic with other people. Also being a listener is something I am good at. I would like more help when it comes to writing (so more critique and just help with starting papers) and I will like help with understanding the reading material. The topic that most interest me is gender roles. This would be so interesting to learn about because gender roles have been happening since early history. It would be extra interesting to learn about gender roles in early America. Also learning about how other cultures treated their women. It would also be interesting to learn if gender roles were ever reversed.
Some parts of the analysis were correct, I do like stars and being outdoors. I do not really identify with nature and bushes. I think it was misinterpreted because my clouds looked a lot like bushes. As my symbols, I chose the sun, a tree, a smiley face, clouds, and stars. I chose the sun because I like watching sunsets. The clouds and the stars were chosen because I like looking at them. The smiley face because most of the time I am happy. The tree because I like sitting in there shade and reading.
